Atlantic Salmon This film looks at the Atlantic salmon, its
life cycle, and the measures taken to preserve this precious
resource. Underwater photography depicts the growth of the
Atlantic salmon, from hatching to maturity. The salmon is
essential to the Maritime economy; it maintains an industry
that creates jobs in an area that otherwise suffers from high
unemployment.
Rivers to the Sea The rivers of Atlantic Canada are unique
because their closeness to the sea makes them ideal spawning
grounds and nurseries for many kinds of marine fish that require
fresh water to complete some part of their life cycle. Rivers
to the Sea uses rich underwater photography and lively surface
shooting to reveal both the beauty and the pollution of these
tidal Atlantic rivers.
Trout Stream From the rocky bottom of a stream this film
brings you a remarkable study of the eastern brook trout,
showing how instinct protects a fish and lets it survive,
and how the same instinct holds it prisoner of its environment.
Photographed in color at natural speed, the film's most remarkable
sequence shows the spawning of fish, the event of regeneration
as eggs are laid and fertilized, then hatch.
